Trail Head Location (just up the road from the upper parking area): Google Maps Parking recommended upper parking location or… Tyaughton Lake Road Parking (lower down – not as recommended as upper parking location) or Ride from Tyax Lodge if you are animals. Note: We start this route in Trailforks at the Tyaughton parking area for navigation assistance. We suggest you drive up to the upper parking area or even the trail head just a few kilometers past the upper parking area if your vehicle can make it.
Description: This is one of the classic routes in the Chilcotins.
We have marked the trail head a bit beyond where you will likely park (although you can park at this trail head GPS starting point, you just need a good 4×4 to get right up to this point). It seems that that GPS track is a bit wonky on Trailforks for this trailhead and you will be turning left and climbing up at the point we have marked as the start of this ride – this might not make sense now, but it will when you are standing at the starting point.
You then climb the up into the Taylor Basin. A good place for a quick recharge is the old cabin on your left just a half kilometer before the Camel Pass Trail. Another awesome place for a rest or lunch is the top of Camel Pass… but it is often quite windy up there.
Descend down to the High Trail and follow it along until you see Molly Dog on your right. Descent to Pearson Bench then ride Frieburg Trail right to the Tyax Lodge. Congrats you did it. Now go for a swim in the lake!
Key trails are: Taylor Creek Trail, Camel Pass, High Trail, Molly Dog.
