Description: Please do not ride the Alpine trail when it is wet. Check with the local bike shops or shuttle companies for suggestions on where to ride in the wet as there are many other trails in town that are fantastic while wet.
This is one of the most incredible rides you will ever do! This loop features the full Alpine Trail and there are multiple ways that you can shorten the ride if you are not in the mood for the full epic.
Most people do a shorter version or this ride by skipping the top loop of the Alpine Trail and simply climbing up to the bunch-grass meadows and descending down the Alpine trail. The way this route is built you get some amazing extra riding, but it does add a long climb back up on the NF-1912 road back up to the Alpine Trail and up to the bunch-grass meadows.
This ride can also be shuttled and there are some excellent shuttle companies located in Oakridge that can hook you up. You can book these shuttles directly through RideSpots.com.
Highlights of the ride include the bunch grass meadow at the high point of the trail followed by the fairly sustained descent right down to the road from the meadow. The next section of the trail is many people’s favorite part of the ride… the Jedi section. Huge trees, loam and flow are the order of the day. The trail then becomes rolling with some reasonable length climbs followed by some awesome views of the valley and then some incredible sustained high speed sections.
For the full pedaling version of this ride we suggest you park in the parking lot just west of the Office Bridge (the longest covered bridge in Oregon). This lot has bathrooms, water and even a small pump track. Post ride, see if the Westfir Lodge is open for dinner.
