Sub area: La Sal Mountains
Description: Please respect trail closures and check in with the local shuttle companies to find out where they can drop you off given the conditions. You can easily damage the trails when they are wet or snow covered.
This trial is high altitude – From the highest point the trail is only ride-able, due to snow and moisture from early July into late fall and from Hazard the trail tends to open up around May 1st and into late fall.
The Whole Enchilada is possibly one of the best mountain bike rides in the world. It is not always possible to do the entire ride depending on weather and snow conditions. You might start the ride from a variety of starting points depending on what you are looking for that day, and where the local shuttle companies are dropping people off due to trail conditions. A common early or late season starting point is the route from Miners Basin. From there, the route is primarily downhill, whereas the Whole Enchilada starting point has quite a bit of high altitude climbing.
This ride is long and quite challenging at times. Make sure that you bring lots of water and plenty of spare inner tubes. It is an accomplishment to do this ride without at least one flat tire in your group and don’t be surprised if everyone has at least one flat even if you are running tubeless. The views are incredible and finishing down at the Colorado River hours later is pretty surreal. It is quite easy to ride along the road right back to your accommodation in Moab. If you do not think you will be up to a pedal home you can always plan ahead and leave a car at the bottom of the Porcupine Rim Trail, which is the last trail in the route.
Key trails are: The Whole Enchilada, Burrow Pass, Hazzard County, Kokopelli, UPS, LPS, Porcupine Rim, Porcupine Singletrack
